Blogs & Books

Last week I transferred some of my sites to a new server, resulting in both profit and loss–profit because I am getting more for my money, loss because, in my haste, I didn’t properly back up everything I should have. Read the rest of this entry »

Well, I must apologize to my millions of fans…

The reason I haven’t blogged lately is that my company blocked livejournal on our computers. I know–the thought!

Now, I don’t sit at work and blog all day–at ALL–I’m way too busy. But it is where I spend most of my computer time. I just don’t feel like getting online once I get home. So I blog in the morning and during lunch–nothing excessive, by any means. But alas, no more. The software that blocks restricted sites seems to have recently added livejournal.com to its list of no-no’s, so I can no longer blog or even read other blogs. Ugh.

I read an article once that said that for every three hours employees spend “goofing off” at the office, they spend another five working at home. The point is that people need to breathe, and that it pays off if you let them. I’m sure this isn’t true of every employee, but I myself just spent the last two hours working here at home. Of course, I’m also wide awake in the middle of the night. But I could be watching Blind Date.

Why am I wide awake in the middle of the night? Good question. Those who know me know that I am usually in bed around 9:30 nowadays. (T’wasn’t always the case–I have pulled more than my share of all-nighters. Working the late-late shift is a life experience unto itself.) But lately–since graduating college and regularly getting to work at 7 a.m.–I’m proud to call myself a “morning person.”

So I was as surprised as you are to find myself wide awake at 2 a.m. after less than four hours of sleep. I tossed and turned for a while longer but finally just got out of bed.

I sorted through the mail, cleaned up some trash from dinner (we had Chili’s takeout–perhaps contributing to my sleeplessness and this huge headache I have), and then went to work. I’m in the middle of a big project, so it’s really all I want to do anyway. I guess that means I like my job.

So if I’ve persuaded you to join the blogging world and you think I’ve abandoned you, take heart. I’ll find a way to keep you inspired.
