Sometimes you just have a completely uneventful day that’s extraordinary.

Today Mom and Grandma came into town to visit. We went to lunch and spent the afternoon at Mistletoe & Magic. (M&M is the Junior League of Tyler‘s biggest fundraiser of the year. Merchants from all over set up booths, entice patrons with their goods and vie for your paycheck. Some of my favorites this year are Zeorlin Designs, The Gypsy Wagon, and leighelena.)

First was lunch at Cheddar’s. (Grandma suggested it nonchalantly, but Mom and I both know it’s one of her favorite places.) Grandma’s really cute when she gets cracked up, and I enjoyed taking these candid shots of her:

I’d never seen her make this face before. It really cracked me up!

Then we moved on to Mistletoe. Last year, I really didn’t find anything I just had to have. But this year, I was definitely in the shopping mood. Check out a couple of deals I got…

Loved the color and shape of this ring. I’m not usually good at choosing jewelry. I can’t make up my mind and end up talking myself out of a purchase before it happens. This one wasn’t my initial choice. There was a smaller, greener stone that I think started with something like spaz-something or other. That’s the one for which I went back to the booth, 10 minutes before closing time.

But it only fit my ring finger, and I really need more pieces for my middle finger. Sooo…after trying about 25 rings and almost going with the spaz-ring, I found this one. I love it and I’m glad I actually completed a purchase!

Greg Zeorlin is an artist in Tyler. Check out his website with links to his art, photography and poetry. I was intrigued by his Ten Word Tin project, in which he combines a 10-word, fortune-cookie-like phrase with a photo or illustration in a simple “conversation-starting” tin. I bought the one above (I know it’s backward–I took the pic with Photo Booth) for myself and another as a gift. I also bought one of his Art Clocks. I chose this one because of the contrast of color:

It goes with nothing in my house; it was simply the one I had to have!

And I had to get a little something for the girls, too. Here they are in their new Texas Tech bandannas:

So what I already expected to be a good day turned into a beautiful, refreshing, thank-full day with people I love.
