I just discovered StumbleUpon.com.
Love IT. I felt out of the loop for not knowing about this site sooner, but I just checked and can’t find any of my friends on it, either, so I feel better.
StumbleUpon is a way to discover websites based on your own interests and preferences. It puts a little toolbar in your web browser like this:
To find a new site, you just click the StumbleUpon button and see what appears. Then you get to give it a “thumbs up” or “thumbs down”. For instance, I checked a few interests, like Capitalism, Christianity, and Geography, and the first site it gave me was biblemap.org–a site I already love, so I was immediately hooked.
I’ve looked at about 100 sites in the last 24 hours (I know, a little sad, but I love it), and only a handful were sites I’d seen before. Here are a few new discoveries, thanks to StumbleUpon:
dontclick.it
An experimental site that encourages the elimination of the mouse-click! Amazingly innovative!
ArtPad
Draw something. Then email it to yourself or a friend.
Daily Lit
Books sent to your email! Chapters are sent daily to your email at whatever time you specify. Many classics offered free.
In other news, a random woman at Linens ‘N Things said she loved my haircut! Woo hoo!
I have a new favorite…
…website. You know those handly little quick-reference cards from Spark Charts? They have tips on everything from Art History to Legal Writing. I myself own several and always drool over the various new subjects I find whenever I go to Barnes & Noble. Well, it turns out they are available online! You can download the entire card for the same price as the hardcopy version, or you can preview each subject page by page right in your web browser for free. It’s great! I’ve already read sections from French Vocabulary, Philosophy and Microsoft Access (it’s a slow day).
